Nissan Canada Earns Fourth Recognition as a Top 100 Ideal Employer

The prestigious title is determined by a survey, which evaluates the responses of career preferences by students. This survey is the longest-running and most comprehensive survey of its kind, and this year it included students from 159 universities and colleges. The total respondents clocked in at over 20,000 students who recorded their future career plans and goals.

“Canadian students studying engineering and information technology have ranked Nissan Canada among the top 100 most attractive companies over the last four years,” said Steve Milette, president, Nissan Canada. “We are honoured to accept this award and will continue to promote and enhance a winning culture that is desirable for our current and future employees.”

The survey covered four categories to define employers — people and culture, image and reputation, job characteristics, and remuneration and advancement opportunities — and tasked survey respondents to write which companies fit their ideals, according to these categories as well as what they want a company to be and what they offer to employees.

“The talents of tomorrow are eager to work in a thriving and balanced environment, where they can benefit from the mentorship of inspirational leaders and contribute to a better future. Nissan Canada is proud to be considered for those reasons,” concluded Milette.

Nissan Leaf named 2019 Canadian Green Car of the Year

VANCOUVER, March 19, 2019 /CNW/ – Nissan Leaf is the 2019 Canadian Green Car of the Year (CGCOTY) as decided upon by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) as announced today at the Vancouver International Auto Show.

“It’s important for many Canadian drivers to be environmentally aware, and AJAC’s Green Vehicle of the Year awards help them to make the responsible choice when it’s time to buy a new car or utility vehicle,” says Mark Richardson, President of AJAC. “If they can save money on fuel while also driving a vehicle with low emissions – or no emissions at all – then everybody wins.”

Entries to the CGCOTY and CGUVOTY must meet the standard requirements for initial entry into the Canadian Car of the Year awards program, and additional criteria for fuel efficiency based on the entry’s size, powertrain and purpose. In today’s market, eco-friendly cars come in many styles, sizes, price-points and vehicle categories.

All entries are tested by AJAC journalists, who are among the most respected and objective sources of automotive opinion in Canada. Evaluation takes place over months on different road surfaces and road conditions throughout the year and during AJAC’s autumn Test Fest event. These AJAC journalism professionals score all eligible entries on parameters including recharge time, driving range, vehicle dynamics, market significance, and overall value. Each of the scores is then weighted for relevance to the vehicle and category in question. The winning score also represents how the vehicle stacks up to its market segment competition, whether green or otherwise.

Nissan LEAF first electric car to pass 400,000 sales

Best-selling electric vehicle of all time will go on sale in more than a dozen new markets this year

YOKOHAMA, Japan – The Nissan LEAF today became the first electric car in history to surpass 400,000 sales, solidifying the model’s leading role in the global shift toward more sustainable mobility.

Introduced in 2010 as the world’s first mass-market electric vehicle, the Nissan LEAF has led the way in making the excitement and convenience of electric driving accessible to non-luxury buyers. Less than a decade ago, electric cars were seen as a niche product, and LEAF customers were mostly “early adopters.”

Today, a growing number of consumers say their next car may be electric. Customers are choosing the LEAF for its powerful, agile performance and advanced technologies, such as the ProPILOT Assist semiautonomous driving system1, in addition to the benefits of sustainable mobility.

“This milestone is a powerful statement that 400,000 customers, and counting, value the Nissan LEAF for the excitement, confidence and connection it delivers,” said Executive Vice President Daniele Schillaci, Nissan’s global head of marketing, sales and electric vehicles. “The LEAF remains the icon of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, our strategy for moving more people to a better world.”

In launching the first-generation LEAF, Nissan pledged to become a global leader in producing and promoting vehicles with zero tailpipe emissions. The company committed itself to working with governments and utility companies to support the adoption of electric vehicles, make charging them easier and more convenient, and develop second-life uses for electric car batteries.

Since then, Nissan has formed partnerships around the world under its Nissan Energy initiative. These partnerships will leverage the ability of electric car batteries to store energy and share it with homes, businesses and power grids – making electric vehicles even more useful, while promoting efficient energy use.

Meanwhile, LEAF owners have driven their cars more than 10 billion kilometers in total. The number of LEAF vehicles sold since 2010 is enough to save 3.8 million barrels of oil a year.2

Last year, the LEAF was not only the best-selling electric vehicle in Europe, but also the top-selling car of any kind in Norway.

The Nissan LEAF is available in more than 50 markets globally. It will go on sale in six new markets in Latin America in the first half of this year and seven in Asia and Oceania by the end of the year.

The new LEAF

Recently, a model with a new powertrain joined the lineup: the Nissan LEAF PLUS, which offers increased power and up to 226 miles of range. Sales of the LEAF PLUS began in late January in Japan. Canadian sales will begin this spring, and Europe will follow shortly thereafter.

The Nissan LEAF embodies the three pillars of Nissan Intelligent Mobility – Intelligent Power, Intelligent Drive and Intelligent Integration. The car’s innovative electric powertrains exemplify the first, while ProPILOT Assist, available in many markets, showcases the second. Designed for single-lane driving on the highway, ProPILOT Assist maintains speed and lane position while reducing driver fatigue.

Nissan Intelligent Integration

The Nissan LEAF has also opened up a new world of clean energy capabilities that stretch beyond efficient transportation.

Nissan Energy is an ecosystem centered on Nissan electric vehicles that make them even more useful to customers by leveraging their batteries’ ability to store and share energy. It enables electric vehicle owners to easily connect their cars with energy systems to charge their batteries, power homes and businesses or help balance power grids. As part of Nissan Energy, the company has already started infrastructure pilots in Europe, Japan and the U.S., and future commercial uses are in development.

Nissan Energy also includes new efforts to reuse batteries, a vital step in enhancing the sustainability of electric vehicles. Along with strategic partners, Nissan has taken LEAF batteries and repurposed them for use in off-grid street lighting, power banks for sports complexes, and more.

LEAF manufacturing

The Nissan LEAF is built at three factories: Oppama, Japan; Sunderland, England; and Smyrna, Tennessee.

Altima-te AWD-1…Snow-0

Montreal, Quebec – As many parts of Canada start to see the first signs of a typically harsh winter, the all-new 2019 Nissan Altima AWD sedan has arrived to showrooms. To convey the message that All-Wheel Drive is now a standard feature on the 2019 Altima, Nissan has modified the sophisticated sedan into an aggressive adversary to Old Man Winter. Named the Altima-te AWD, this extreme iteration of the Altima dons a 30-inch tall DOMINATOR® track system from American Track Truck, installed by Quebec-based MIA Motorsports.

The Altima-te AWD joins the Warrior family of Nissan crossovers wearing heavy-duty rubber tracks. In connection to the original Rogue Warrior video, issued in line with press day at the 2016 Montreal International Auto Show, three-time Nissan Micra Cup champion Olivier Bédard once again appears in a Nissan video story. This time, Valérie Limoges, a Micra Cup driver who placed fourth in the 2018 championship, stars alongside Bédard.

The video starts with Limoges in a chalet, messaging with Bédard about a meeting up for a race. Limoges gets into her vehicle, which appears to be the production Altima sedan at first. As the camera rolls, the deep snow accumulation becomes more apparent until the Altima-te AWD is seen in its full form, starting with its extremely flared fenders and powering through the powder with ease.

Reaching a frozen lake, Limoges updates Bédard on her location, which Bédard must access by plane due to its challenging, snowy terrain. Bédard exits the plane, greets Limoges, and the two Nissan Micra Cup drivers head to Bédard’s vehicle – the original Rogue Warrior. The vehicles race one another, kicking up large bursts of snow from their DOMINATOR Tracks.

Both the video and the Altima-te AWD were revealed to the public for the first time today, during Nissan’s press conference at the 2019 Montreal International Auto Show (MIAS). The Altima-te AWD will be on display at the MIAS until the show concludes on January 27.
